ZOOM Into My Office

Introducing Zoom: An Easy Remote Conference Solution

Zoom logoThe past week or two I have been looking for a user-friendly video conferencing app. I settled on ZOOM after trying it out on a number of family, friends, and clients. I have been very happy with how easy it is to install and use.

Zoom works on just about any sort of machine: Windows, Mac, IOS. You’ll want a decent screen (to see my lovely face) and good sound (to hear my dulcet tones).

You may want to go to www.zoom.us and download a free version. It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends and family (especially in these rather difficult times).

When we schedule an appointment, we will send you an email invitation. The email will have a number of links to walk you through installation if you don’t have it installed already. It wouldn’t hurt to install Zoom ahead of time and test the audio and video (it will walk you through each of those steps).

In fact, here’s a one minute video showing how easy it is.

Bob, I just want to buy a template/document for a simple lifetime right to occupy the home I live in. It is owned by my partner and will go to me in her will (she is 78 and I am 81) but we want to make certain that, if she gets terribly sick, I have the right to stay in the home for the rest of my like. We are both in shaky health. Would you please do one for us?? All of our end of life paperwork is complete and we need nothing else. But we are both frightened that -if she becomes ill, I will not have a place to live. The house isn’t paid for but her estate will take care of all the finances and I do not pay rent or utilities. Can you help two old ladies please? Other attorneys want to meet and draw up papers and make this very complicated. We just want to assure I can live here. Tell us your cost and we will pay you. We pray you can help…

I’m sorry, I cannot do that for a number of reasons. First, I am prohibited by bar rules from preparing any document for a person without meeting with the client and ascertaining the extent and nature of the issue and any surrounding issues you may not have even considered (possibility of Medicaid comes to mind). Second, I do not sell “simple documents and templates” but rather provide legal advice and implement those strategies (often through the use of documents). It is sort of like asking a physician online for medical advice and a simple prescription (that would never happen). Finally, even if you disregarded the foregoing, I do not have any indication that you are either in North Carolina or Georgia (the only states I am licensed in).

By the way, if you were married you wouldn’t have any problems (at least related to the facts you have given me).
